Weekly task: Create a poster to encourage others to protect the climate.
Timeframe
1 week
Illustrator
Procreate
Here are some example posters I have found on Pinterest that I particularly like.
I prefer the more minimalistic and illustrative look to these poster because even through their simplicity they still draw in the viewers attention and deliver their intended message.
To me these minimalistic poster get the message across just as powerfully as an intricate and detailed poster design would however due to their simplicity this poster add a stronger shock value for the viewer.
I chose this final design as to me it the one closest resembling the inspiration posters I found for my mood board. It has a fairly simplistic design as it will be illustrated, yet it still efficiently gets the message of climate protection across.
I will be adding the element of layout and composition in by adding the tittle repeatedly throughout the background of the poster.
As seen from the final design on the right, the poster uses layout and alignment in the form of the text in the background. By having the same sentence repeating all the way down the poster creates more unity and adds more urgency to the message it trying to get across of ‘stop burning our earth’, rather than if it was to appear once on the poster.
I have created a focal point on the poster with the use of the red words to further draw the viewers attention to what is being said on the poster. It also provided a natural flow in the reading order of the words as the illustration of the earth and hand holding the lighter cover most of the sentences.
Looking back after completing the first task I am happy with the outcome. Since I was a transfer student I had a couple tasks to catch up on, but completed this one quite quickly, which help me to catch up quicker.
What I would improve upon would be to avoid using procreate to create the illustrations and focus on learning Illustrator. However, for this particular task as I was trying to catch up on the weeks I missed due to transferring to the course four weeks in, I thought that perhaps it would be better to use a program that I am already familiar with.
